The Kingdom of Cambodia (formerly known as Kampuchea) is a country in South East Asia with a population of over 14 million people. The kingdom's capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is the successor state of the once powerful Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire, which ruled most of the Indochinese Peninsula between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries. A citizen of Cambodia is usually identified as "Cambodian" or "Khmer," though the latter strictly refers to ethnic Khmers. Most Cambodians are Theravada Buddhists of Khmer extraction, but the country also has a substantial number of predominantly Muslim Cham, as well as ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and small animist hill tribes. The country borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to its northeast, and Vietnam to its east and southeast. In the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand. The geography of Cambodia is dominated by the Mekong river (colloquial Khmer: Tonle Thom or "the great river") and the Tonlé Sap ("the fresh water lake"), an important source of fish. Its culture is heavily influenced by Thailand and Laos. Keywords:bbtv broadbandtv powerdocs destinations, cambodia, asia, vacation, history, travel, tourist, tourism, adventure, landmark, culture

WARNING: The first 2 minutes of this video includes some disturbing images of the domestication process elephants go through to prepare the animal to be used in the tourism industry. However, by watching this introduction, you will have a better idea on the importance of the work that has been done at the Elephant Nature Park, in Chiang Mai. The Elephant Nature Park is a sanctuary and rescue centre for elephants in the Northern Thailand, approximately 60 km from Chiang Mai City. Founded in the 1990s, the project's aim is to provide sanctuary for distressed elephants from all over Thailand. Set in a natural valley, bordered by a river, and surrounded by forested mountains the sanctuary and surrounding area offers a glimpse of rural life. The Elephant Nature Park has been featured in documentaries from different TV channels, such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and National Geographic. Its founder, Sangduen "Lek" Chailert, was born at a remote mountain community in Northern Thailand in the 1960s. Despite extreme financial difficulties she succeeded in founding Elephant Nature Park along with her husband Adam in 1996. The elephants at the sanctuary are rescued from street begging, logging or tourism. Their scars, mental and physical, need to be healed. Some outlived their usefulness to loggers while others became useless to trekking camp owners. Lek's work takes her deep into the jungles of Northern Thailand where, with the help of medical staff, she treats tribal ...

Playing at the ReEarth festival in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Gordon Ramsay hunts for local frogs in Cambodia, a rural delicacy. Fromseason 2 of Gordon's Great Escape. For the second series, Gordon goes back on the road doing what he loves most: searching out the best food in the world and testing himself in extreme and demanding situations. This time he's not just taking on one country, his appetite for adventure will take him through four of South East Asia's most exciting culinary destinations: Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The Greater Mekong River Sub-region has probably the most hostile topography on Earth. This is a vast area where, in the past, huge mountains, rapid rivers and impenetrable forests made human contact almost impossible, but today the situation has changed, and greatly improved transportation has made contact between different human communities and economic development possible, and regional cooperation much more convenient. Today we look at the development of regional transportation, from the distant past to the present day. We will take a walk down the ancient tea and horse path, visit a transportation hubbub Mandalay and see a flower train station in Myanmar, and travel along the Yunnan-Myanmar railway. We will look at both ancient and contemporary means of transportation, from mule or horse drawn carts to contemporary cars, from the often-treacherous, bumpy, zigzag, ancient paths to modern highways, as consider the changes that vast improvements in transportation have brought to the lives of the local people who strive untiringly for a better future in these places nourished by the Lancang-Mekong River.

spring.

After producing two seasonal videos, fall and winter, It seemed necessary to keep the ball rolling. The majority of this spring was spent traveling with my girlfriend through Thailand and Cambodia. This video documents that trip, by focusing on the similarities between traveling and spring... enjoy. - canon 7d - 24mm lens - 1 tripod - internal mic on camera - edited on mac book pro while traveling

One Tambon One Product. Ban Tha Sawang Silk Weaving Village is near Surin in the NE of Thailand. Members of all ages are proud of their heritage and enjoy visitors. It is busy during the annual elephant roundup in the area. Enjoy the film!

Unlike other places on earth, it seems that male chauvinism is unknown some Lancang-Mekong River areas where practices from ancient matriarchal society are still seen today. The role of women in these societies is unique, with women often having the final say on household economic matters. And as mothers, of course, it is the women determine the future of the area. Today we look at the stories of two women. Firstly we look at the life of Tran Thi Thao, a Vietnamese woman working in a job that most men would shy away from: clearing away left-over explosives. Then we look at the career of a tea merchant in Yunnan, China. In both stories we will look at the work these women are engaged in, and ponder over their spiritual world as they live their lives in a region nourished by the Lancang-Mekong River.

Overview of Koh Chang trip. HD video.

HOW TO GET TO MAYA BAY: Fly to Bangkok (BBK) through KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (which is awesome) then take a jet down to Phuket. Jump on a cab and have them take you to the docks where you'll catch a ferry to Phi Phi Island. Reserve a room on Phi Phi before you leave home (I recommend Phi Phi Island Village Resort and Spa) then take a long-tail boat to Maya Bay at around 11AM the next morning. Most people go through the front entrance to get to the beach but if you feel like being more adventurous then take the back way like we did! You'll have have to jump off your boat, swim to the ladder then hike through a small forest to get to the beach. It's much more fun that way, trust me! If you plan on bringing your camera like I did, then BRING A WATERPROOF BAG!!! I took a huge risk to make this video but if it weren't for that bag, then this video wouldn't have happened. Camera used: Canon 5D Mark II
